Sciaenochromis sp."nyassae" Chimwalani

Sciaenochromis sp."nyassae" is a very rare cichlid which can mainly be found in the southern part the lake where they live in shallow intermediate zones between rocks and sand, usually on depths between 10 and 25 metres. These examples were found in the neighbourhood of Chimwalani Reef in the southern part of the lake.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 20 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 22 cm, females grow to about 15 cm.

You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. These are inhabitants you can also keep together with all kinds of species, also mbunas.

In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with young mbunas. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
